THOMAS J. BYRNE

Mr. Byrne is currently a partner at the Law Offices of  Byrne & Owens, APC. Mr. Byrne became a founding member of & Byrne, later incorporated into  Byrne & Owens.

Mr. Byrne has been practicing workers’ compensation law since 1995, and he specializes in representing professional athletes in obtaining workers’ compensation benefits. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tem at the Santa Ana Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.

MEL T. OWENS

Mr. Owens is currently a partner at the Law Offices of  Byrne & Owens, APC.  He attended and graduated from the University of Michigan, where he also played college football.  He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1st Round of the 1981 Draft. After his 10 year career in the NFL, Mr. Owens obtained his Series 7 License and worked at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor.  

Thereafter, Mr. Owens attended law school and received his Juris Doctorate at the University of California at San Francisco – Hastings School of Law.  In 2006, Mr. Owens became a founding partner at Byrne & Owens.  Mr. Owens is a lecturer in the field of workers’ compensation, sports law, sports injuries and disability benefits.
